Former Ohio National Guardsman Mathew J. McManus and his wife, Linda, of West Salem, Ohio, show their pleasure after a federal judge Friday acquitted MacManus and seven other ex-guardsmen of charges stemming from the 1970 Kent State University shootings. U.S. District Judge Frank J. Battisti granted a defense motion for a judgement of acquittal after the government completed its case. He held that the evidence presented was not sufficient to support charges in an indictment returned by a federal grand jury last March 29.
