The famed Liberty Bell in Philadelphia's Independence Hall rang out today when a workman, engaged in the delicate task of raising the bell to strengthen the wooden yoke on which it rests, tapped a wooden wedge and the impact carried to the bell. The yoke, believed to be the same one from which the bell was hung in the Old State House in 1753, is being removed and will be reinforced with a steel T-beam. It then will be replaced.

Photo is dated 1962.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
