Reverend Maurice J. Mahoney (above) of Lawrence, Massachusetts, and an Augustinian missionary is shown in a conservative business suit, white shirt and subdued tie, an attire that Catholic priests in Japan are permitted to wear. The 32-year-old priest is also shown in the traditional black suit and Roman collar he wears outside of Japan. Permission for the change resulted from a decision of the Japanese bishops after the Vatican Council meeting, Fr. Mahoney said.
