1968 Press Photo "Welcome to Phooeyland" welcomes Senator McCarthy to Atlanta

Senator Eugene J. McCarthy is greeted in Atlanta Thursday by a "Welcome to Phooeyland" sign--a takeoff on Georgia Governor Lester Maddox who says "Phooey" to many of the questions put to him by newsmen. McCarthy was in Atlanta as part of his southern tour to push his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination.
