1967 Press Photo Rescued sailor Nils Nelson aboard 30-foot yawl - now21056

Chicago sailor Nils B. Nelson, 64, stands aboard his 30-foot yawl after being rescued from the Atlantic off Cape Cod, Massachusetts, by the Coast Guard yesterday. Nelson and his beagle dog were adrift in the boat for 10 weeks when a storm knocked his rudder and part of his mainsail off. He was en route to Sweden via the St. Lawrence Seaway and was headed out in the North Atlantic when the storm hit. He was out of water and down to three cans of soup when rescued.
