1956 Press Photo Greek priest Macheriotis deported from England to Greece

The Archimandrite Kellinikos Macheriotis, high Greek Orthodox priest, is shown as he arrived in Athens, Greece, today after his early morning deportation from England. Macheriotis, a Cyprus-born Greek subject, had been head of a congregation in London's Camden Town for three years. The deportation was ordered by the home secretary as a matter of "public interest." Detectives took him into custody at his home late last night and put him on a plane for Athens early this morning.
