1973 Press Photo Lt. Governor Maddox presents ax handle to Senator Cox

Lt. Governor Lester Maddox (left) of Georgia shakes hands with State Senator Jay Carroll Cox of Twin City, Georgia, as the Lieutenant Governor presented an ax handle to the senator on the streets of Atlanta. Cox was robbed of about $125 in a motel parking lot in downtown Atlanta. Looking on are other state senators as the presentation took place in the Senate Chamber.
