1968 Press Photo Senator John McClellan displays letter from Abe Fortas

Senator John McClellan, D-AR. acting Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today displayed a letter from Justice Abe Fortas declining an invitation to testify further on his nomination to be Chief Justice. The letter was addressed to Chairman James Eastland, D-MS, who was absent when the hearings were resumed this morning.
