1960 Press Photo Slaughter House wreckage left by gas explosion at Leavenworth

An explosion, believed caused by gas, destroyed this slaughter house outside the walls of the U.S. Penitentiary at Leavenworth, killing three men and injuring five. Prison walls with guard tower are in background. The crane at right was used to lift the roof and other debris off the victims.
