1967 Press Photo Blarney Castle guide assists visitor to kiss the Blarney Stone

A guide at Old Blarney Castle assists a visitor as she bends backward to kiss the underside of the Blarney Stone. The owner of the stone, which is supposed to give those who kiss it the gift of gab, reports many visitors--Americans mostly--try to buy the stone or a chunk of it. Mary Penelope Hillyard, who inherited it in 1952, says the stone will never leave the Southern Ireland castle.
