This is Leo, the mangy old derelict lion of the Phoenix Arizona Zoo.Officials decided to sell Leo because of a lack of space to keep it at the zoo. Twelve Phoenix girls, 8 to 13 years old,set up a bowl and vowed to collect $16,000 to get Leo an enclosure. The girls, by staging a backyard circus and an art show, have collected $172.38. The girls are still at it, this time selling homemade novelties. "And just think," says one of them, "we just need $15,827.63." Meanwhile Leo just waits fora new abode.
