Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
James W. Jennings, who is blind, walks with his guide dog, Tara, in electronic computer room of the Bureau of Public Roads in Washington where he is seeking to become a practicing civil engineer. At right is C. Bolyard of the bureau. The computers may provide a big boost for Jennings toward his career. They eliminate a great deal of the arithmetical handwork which is time-consuming for any engineer. The detailed calculations constitute a tremendous burden for a blind man.

Photo is dated 1964.

Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
