Joe Newton Kagebien sits by a window at Cummins Prison Farm as he is interviewed by newsmen, who described him as shy and diffident. Kagebien was 15 years old when sentenced August 10 to death in the electric chair after being convicted of first-degree murder in the slaying last November 7 of an Arkansas rice farmer. Governor Dale Bumpers has stayed his execution to permit time for an appeal.
