Thomas Hoving, director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, stands next to a gold pectoral of the fourth century B.C., Wednesday at the New York museum's preview of an exhibit of Scythian gold. "This stuff has never been out of Russia before, " said Hoving of the 180 pieces, all over 2,000 years old.
