1962 Press Photo Arthur Holmes aided by Delores Gill in Chicago hospital

Arthur Holmes, 41, his right hand swathed in bandages is administered by Miss Delores Gill, supervisor of surgical nurses at Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago today. Surgeons rejoined Holmes right hand which had been cut off by a paper cutting machine yesterday. Steel pins were used to join the bones of and and arm. Small arteries were sutured with the aid of magnifying glasses. Success of the operation will not be known until tomorrow or Thursday.
