1961 Press Photo Spacecraft model to be built by Hughes Aircraft Company

Dr. Leo Stoolman poses with a full scale model of a spacecraft at Caltech's Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, California today. The spacecraft is to be built by Hughes Aircraft Company under technical direction of J.P.L. and planned by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to make an easy landing on the moon. Fitted out with instruments, drills and television cameras, the payload section of the moon craft is designed to analyze moon materials and report the findings back to earth.
