1961 Press Photo Freddie Green at Memphis police station, charged with murder

Freddie Green, 18-year-old African American supermarket porter, looks at his reflection in a desk top at Memphis police station and the knife that police say he used to stab 13-year-old Sharon Vaidon of Olive Branch, MS to death in the basement of the grocery store where he worked. Police said there were 32 stab wounds in the girl's chest and neck. Police have charged Green with murder and murder in the perpetration of rape.
