Dr. Alexander Heard, Dean of the University of North Carolina graduate school, was unanimously elected Chancellor of Vanderbilt University today by the schools' Board of Trust. He takes office February 1, succeeding Dr. Harvie Branscomb, who retires. Heard is a native of Savannah, GA
