Archbishop Philip M. Hannan said at a New Orleans press conference Wednesday that financial problems have forced the closing of five Roman Catholic schools in the New Orleans archdiocese and added that others will be closed as public aid is not forthcoming. Archbishop Hannan said he was surprised by the announcement of the Orleans Parish School Board last week that it would publicly oppose a program of state aid to children in non-public schools.
