Dr. S.I. Hayakawa, named yesterday as acting president of San Francisco College is shown at a news conference following the announcement. He replaces Robert Smith who resigned. Hayakawa, 62, a professor of English and noted semanticist, has been a member of the San Francisco faculty since 1955. He is the author of several books on semantics, the most famous being "Language in Action," published in 1941.
