1970 Press Photo Senator Vance Hartke with family at Indiana news conference

Senator Vance Hartke appeared rested here Thursday morning and claimed victory in the photo-finish race with Rep. Richard L. Roudebush. But his granddaughter, Angela Schott, 6, was tired and yawned through the news conference. Mrs. Hartke and children Nadine, 8, Anita, 10, and Paul, 16, were with the Hoosier Senator when he emerged from seclusion. Hartke is leading by a slim margin of less than one vote per precinct in the tightest race in Indiana history.
