Former U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater, tanned and sporting an inch-long beard, sits with his son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Ross of Los Angeles, after finishing a two-week trip down the Colorado River. The 312-mile trip was similar to one made by the 1962 presidential nominee of the Republicans in 1939.
