PFC David Haines of Zion, Illinois, and a South Vietnamese girl hold a Saigon newspaper with headline report of President Nixon's decision to withdraw 25,000 GIs from South Vietnam in the next 30 days. GIs in Saigon showed little surprise at the decision announced Sunday on Midway Island in meeting with President Nixon and South Vietnamese President Nguyen Van Thieu.
