Former U.S. Senator Ed Gurney of Florida awaits the elevator in the basement of the Federal Courthouse after walking through a light rain and a throng of newsmen. Gurney, 61, is being tried for allegedly accepting money for guarantees to builders of federal mortgage. Gurney would not comment on the charges.
