Sir Humphrey Gibbs, right, British royal governor of Rhodesia, leaves the Anglican Cathedral in Salisbury yesterday after attending services. Sir Humphrey heard the senior Anglican Bishop of Rhodesia, the Right Reverend Dr. Cecil Alderson, condemn the break-away government of Premier Ian Smith, who last week signed a declaration of independence from Great Britain. Last night Sir Humphrey issued a defiant statement that he would not quit the governorship as Smith has demanded.

Photo is dated 1965.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
