1971 Press Photo Injured Gunnison players rushed to St. Luke's Hospital, Denver

Injured players from Gunnison High School football team are rushed into St. Luke's Hospital in Denver. Army helicopters brought the injured into Denver from the crash scene on Monarch Pass. Nine persons of the 48 on board the bus were killed with a score hospitalized with serious back and head injuries. The bus went out of control after losing its brakes and ran wild for two miles before turning over three times. Forty-five of the 48 players and coaches on the bus were hurled through windows and doors.
