1951 Press Photo Farmhouse in St. Charles County surrounded by flooded river

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Typical of the farms to be found in St. Charles County, this quiet farm home is completely surrounded by the flooding Missouri River. Approximately 25,000 acres of rich farmland have been inundated in the county leaving many homes cut off by water and reachable only by boat (note boat in front yard). The rapidly rising Mississippi may be seen beyond the ridge of trees in background.

Photo is dated 1951.

Photo measures 9 x 7.25 inches.
