Evgenij Ivanevich Gneushev, 23, Vladivostok, who suffered serious brain damage early in April when he fell into a hold of a Soviet refrigerator ship operating in the Bering Sea, is recovering at the Elmendorf Air Force Base hospital near here. A. U.S. Coast Guard cutter and aircraft were used to bring the unconscious and partially paralyzed seaman to Anchorage after the Soviet Embassy requested medical assistance from the United States. He has regained ability to speak and paralysis is disappearing. With Gneushev is his medical assistant, Air Force M/Sgt. Woodrow W. Mahan.

Photo measures 10 x 7 inches.
