1973 Press Photo Cow on flooded MS River high ground for days - now02589

Surrounded by the flooding Mississippi River near Dyersburg, Tennessee, this cow has been standing her ground on a tiny island for several days. Rescue attempts have proved fruitless. Every time she was chased into the water, she swam back to her safety. So feed is being brought to her by boat daily until the river drops or until she finally agrees to take a supervised swim to higher ground.
