The junction of the Spree River, background, and the Landwehr Canal, foreground, in Berlin, is where 12 young East Germans, bringing a baby with them, hijacked a 500-ton river excursion boat today and escaped to freedom. East German police pumped over 200 bullets into the fleeing vessel. No one was hurt. On right are buildings in the East Berlin area.

Photo is dated 1962.

Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
