1965 Press Photo Secretary of State Rusk & Prime Minister Fanfani at White House

Secretary of State Dean Rusk talks with Amintore Fanfani, right, Italian Prime Minister and current president of the United Nations General Assembly. Fanfani came to Washington today after the U.N. General Assembly wound up its business and was in conference with Rusk for three hours, but there was no official word on the subject of their conversations. Fanfani told newsmen after the meeting only that Rusk had thanked him for his role in transmitting to President Johnson an alleged North Vietnamese peace feeler.
