Hyron Spinard, University of California Astronomer at Berkeley, used this research photo to aid him in his work in identifying what he calls the most distant galaxy yet discovered, appearing only as an indistinct smudge between arrows, where light and dark have been reversed. The photo was made at Caltech's 200-inch telescope on Mt. Palomar by astronomers Malcolm Longair of Cambridge University and Jim Gunn of Caltech.

Photo is dated 1975.

Photo measures 8 x 9.5 inches.
