Description
Huge timber fire on eastern slope of the Sierra west of Reno is spread over many miles in aerial photo made this afternoon. In foreground is eastern half of Donner Lake with intercontinental Highway 40 running along far shore. Fire knocked out electricity to all of Western Nevada and the Lake Tahoe area for many hours. Highway 40 was eventually closed to all but the most urgent traffic. Another huge fire rages near Forest Hill, 30 miles to the west.

Photo is dated 1960.

Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
