Professor Gerald M. Edelman of Rockefeller University in New York City is shown with poppit-bead model of molecule that helps the body battle attacks by billions of germs and viruses. Each bead represents a single amino acid, the building block of the protein molecule. There are 1,320 amino acids in the whole molecule. The model shows how they're connected together. Dr. Edelman reported this feat of the structure of an antibody to Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology meeting in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Photo is dated 1969.

Photo measures 10.5 x 8 inches.
