Ready for ejection. Astronaut Ed Mitchell is about to be tossed into the air by a device that simulates parachute ejection from a disabled jet. Astronauts sharpen their piloting skills by flying jet fighters between their home base at Houston and training assignments at Cape Kennedy and other locations. Right: Strolling down a lunar lane. Lunar module pilot Edgar Mitchell, 40, practiced walking on the Moon by wearing a special harness that lifts five-sixths of his weight and simulates the one-sixth gravity he will experience on the lunar surface. The Moon-walking trainer is at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Photo is dated 1971.
