1965 Press Photo Michael Meyer completes fifth volume of Ibsen translations.

Michael Meyer (above) has completed his fifth volume of Ibsen translations for Doubleday Anchor Books. In "Ghosts and Three Other Plays: A Doll's House, An Enemy of the People, Rosmersholm," the translator states, "When the social content of (the plays) is no longer topical and interests us only as history, their power is, if anything, greater, because we can see their true theme more clearly; the need of every individual to discover the kind of person he or she really is." Mr. Meyer shows how and when Ibsen came to write each play and gives its stage history and critical reception from the first performance to the present.
