For ten years Thomas W. Duncan of Iowa, Harvard man, author of two unpublished and two short-lived books, part-time magician and worker at odd jobs, pounded out manuscript about the ups and downs of a Middle Western Go-getter, called Gus the Great. Most of the time he lived in a house trailer, traveling from place to place in the West. Occasionally his wife, Actea, worked as a private secretary to help pay the bills.
