Andrew Carnegie as a young business man, of 27: Carnegie learned telegraphy while serving as a messenger boy in Pittsburgh. From telegraphy he entered railroading, and by study at the first free library in Western Pennsylvania laid the basis for his business career. The above is a photograph from a painting by John Earle, which is reproduced in "The Life of Andrew Carnegie" by Burton J. Hendrick (Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc.)
