1970 Press Photo Southern Yacht Club honors Regatta Al Sol participants

Galveston Race Planned -- Southern Yacht Club was host recently to a group of officials and yachtsmen from Mexico and Houston honoring participants in the Regatta Al Sol which will be sailed from Houston to Veracruz this year starting May 7. From left are Richard Spangenber, SYC regatta chairman; David Hatcher of the Galveston Bay Cruising Assn., sponsor of this year's event; Commodore Charles L. Esheleman of SYC; Hon. Mario Vargas Saldana, mayor of Veracruz, and Jose Lima, representative of the Tourist Council of Mexico. Southern will sponsor a race from local waters to Galveston prior to this year's event. The race is scheduled from thus area to Isla Mujeres and Cozumel in 1971.
