The White House today announced a gift of $20 million to expand the National Gallery of Art in Washington. The gift was from Paul Mellon and Mrs. Mellon Bruce, son and daughter of the late Andrew Mellon who donated his art collection and funds to build the national gallery. Chief Justice Earl Warren, chairman of the gallery board of trustees, is flanked by John Walker, right, director of the gallery, and J. Carter Brown, left, assistant director, at the White House at the time of the announcement of the gift.
