Description
The Beauty-Berry shrub (Callicarpa-Americana) which grows wild in Louisiana and in various other southern states is deserving of more attention in the home garden. This is the opinion of Mrs. J.C. Rider, 8530 Sycamore, a former president of While Away Hours Garden Club. The woody-type deciduous shrub is valued chiefly for its handsome magenta colored berries which birds like to eat. It also is popularly known as "French Mulberry," "Spanish Mulberry," Bermuda Mulberry," "Sour Bush" and "Sow-Berry." It is a fast growing member of the Vervain Family, suitable as an accent plant or plant for the wild garden. Moreover it demands little care and is hardy to cold in this area.
