Jefferson Parish's Newest financial institution, Schwegmann Bank &Trust Company, is officially opened today at ribbon-cutting ceremonies which included, from left, Representative George Blue of Jefferson Parish; Patrick M. Allison, the bank's architect; John Schwegmann Jr., bank president; Representative William J. Dwyer of Jefferson; Councilman Anton Pilney, Sheriff Alwynn J. Cronvich, and Senator Jules G. Mollere of the 10th District. The slash of scissors by Jefferson Parish councilman Anton Pilney severed the red ribbon officially opening the Schwegmann Bank and Trust Company, 3600 Veterans Memorial Highway, and fulfilling a dream of bank President John Schwegmann Jr. The new institution, with an initial capitalization of $750,000 and nearly 900 stockholders, began as an idea when he was 17 years old and a clerk with the old Canal Bank and Trust Company, Schwegmann recalled.
