1962 Press Photo Endicott Peabody speaking to newsmen at his Boston office

Boston- Democrat Endicott (Chub) Peabody as he spoke to newsmen in his office in Boston today, following the announcement of the official tally of Massachusetts votes for governor. Official returns gave Peabody 1,051,653 and Republican Governor Volpe 1,048,562. Peabody's winning margin was 3,091 votes. Peabody said in view of the results he will not ask for a recount. Governor Volpe announced he would seek a recount.
