Description
An unmarked police car ripped through a crowd of Canal Street pedestrians, injuring eight, shortly after noon today when the vehicle's brakes failed. The mishap occurred at Canal and Basin as the driver, Patrolman Allen Newman, 38, attempted to stop on Basin to let an emergency vehicle cross the intersection.
