John Meyer doesn't fit into the frame of the chesty, thunder-voiced American hero. He's quiet, amiable, has a very pretty wife and lives comfortably in half of a double cottage at 621 North Pierce. But yesterday John was a hero. And he played the part well. A police patrolman assigned to the juvenile bureau, he talked an apparently emotionally upset gun-wielding man into surrendering. And he persuaded him to return his five-year-old son to the terrified mother.
