"The only way agriculture has survived the current cost-price squeeze has been through the use of mechanization," stated Elmer Lolley, assistant to the president of the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation. Yet, in the past decade, according to Lolley, the prices of beef, rice and cotton have been stable while the cost of tractors and combines has doubled.
