Description
Admiring Art...or Artiste? Hordes of souvenir-seeking Frenchmen stormed the Vieux Carre yesterday after 1300 hours, the commencement of liberty for officers, and crew of the Jeanne d'Arc, French training ship here to take part in dedication of the site for the equestrian statue of the ship's namesake given to New Orleans as a token of French friendship. Although a few sailors were noted taking their leisure in Quarter bars, the bulk of the Frenchmen, most here for the first time, had their sights on seeing the city and collecting momentos.
