Description
Paul R. Crawford transcribes taped interview. Library archives are, in general, pretty quiet places, bringing to mind monks, manuscripts, graduate students, and "Quiet Please" signs. However, at the Howard Tilton Memorial Library of Tulane University, one archive doesn't fit in with that staid picture. Respected authorities here have names like "Jelly Roll" and "Kid Sheik." Prized first-editions have titles like "Stingo-Stungo" and "Kissamee." Contributions come out of dance-halls, bars, and parades. Researchers use record players and tape recorders as well as magnifying glasses and microfilm. And yet, the project is so worthy that the Ford Foundation contributed $156,000 to get it started.

Photo is dated 1965.

Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
