1960 Press Photo New Orleans-Mrs. Joyce Edwards holds a handful of hail

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
A handful of hail is held Tuesday afternoon by Mrs. Joyce Edwards, who scooped the icy particles from a sidewalk on St. Charles near Canal. The first rain in almost two weeks -- mixed with hailstones the "size of marbles" -- fell Monday in New Orleans. The downpour was designated as an "isolated afternoon thundershower" by weather bureau forecasters.

Photo is dated 1960.

Photo measures 8.25 x 10.25 inches.
