Description
An amazing new surgical procedure, which makes it possible for a surgeon to operate on a kidney completely drained of blood while the kidney rests atop a block of ice outside the patient's body, was described here Monday by Dr. Lars-Erik Gelin (right) of Goteborg, Sweden, the surgeon who originated the procedure. Dr. Gelin was in town Monday as a distinguished visiting professor of surgery at Tulane Medical Center. Here he talks with Dr. Martin Litwin, associate professor of surgery at Tulane, as they discuss the properties of detran and its use in connection with the new surgical procedure.
